Community Organizer and Trainer: Survivor’s Rights

Provide and coordinate community education programs and related services for YWCA Kalamazoo around Racial Equity, Human Trafficking, and Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault. In addition, develop relationships with community leaders and serve as the organization’s liaison with various constituents. Organize special events and projects that align with YWCA mission work, and facilitate both community impact areas and initiatives and YWCA internal trainings, primarily around racial equity in the organization.

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday; Business Hours & Evenings. Occasional Weekends.

1. Plan and facilitate trainings on racial equity for the YWCA and the community
2. Plan and facilitate trainings, talks, and other awareness activities regarding racial equity, human trafficking, sexual assault, domestic violence and the impacts of trauma, with an intersectional lens.
3. Plan, schedule and implement developmentally sound and age-appropriate educational programs for community organizations around racial equity, human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault
4. Engage with community and appropriately promote organization and services at conferences, symposiums, expos, and fairs.
5. Plan, schedule and implement appropriate educational programs to market services to southwest Michigan and address community needs.
6. Monitor curriculum, develop and update materials as needed.
7. Maintain program participant records, collect statistics and submit reports as required
8. Manage relationships with community partners.
9. Attend meetings, forums, and committees of interest to keep informed of changing trends or processes for racial equity, community trauma, and related topics. Provide leadership in developing and providing trauma related services, including but not limited to individual and/or support group counseling.
10. Remain informed about local, state, and national racial equity news, narratives, and perspectives through webinars, coalitions, and other educational opportunities, in order to bring a broader, national perspective to the work at the YWCA.
11. Remain informed about local, state, and national human trafficking/domestic violece/sexual assault cases and narratives through webinars, coalitions, and other educational opportunities, in order to bring a national perspective to the work at the YWCA.
12. Work cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff and volunteers.
13. Maintain compliance with applicable local, state and federal funding requirements and/or regulations.
14. Comply with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse.
15. Provide community outreach and trainings to area service providers, law enforcement, emergency medical professionals, and other community partners on all forms of labor and sex trafficking.
16. Build the capacity of partners to provide high quality services, through a Racial Equity lens, to all labor and survivors of trafficking, Domestic Violence, or Sexual Assault
17. As a YWCA employee, project a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community.
18. Remain flexible and manage changing priorities on a continuing basis.
19. Know and adhere to Association policies, procedures and practices.
20. Safeguard confidential information gained because of the position.
21. Work cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff, and volunteers.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. YWCA location- Cornerstone Building: 405 W Michigan Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49007
2. Off-site location – Various; Outdoors, Indoors, Gyms, Hallways, School, colleges/universities, agencies.
3. Potential outdoor events- Tabling events; Marches/Rallies; Vigils; Call to Actions; Promotional events; Networking events; Galas, etc.
4. Actions: Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, some lifting

8. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
9. Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl- During “Tabling event season” generally in warmer months, April to about November.

14. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

16. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
17. Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: Driver’s License and/or ability to drive; Or able to pay for transportation

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of personal/professional experience in education, communications, human services or other related field required.
2. Experience with public speaking and facilitation of trainings and workshops: One year’s public speaking or facilitation experience required
3. Willingness to continually engage in public speaking opportunities.
4. Demonstrate leadership skills.
5. Demonstrate ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, especially diverse age ranges.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of issues/frameworks regarding gender equity, racial equity, and gendered and racial violence
7. Experience with curriculum development around racial and gender equity
8. Satisfactory results of background checks and Central Registry Clearance

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

1. Familiarization with YWCA Personnel Policies and Mission.
2. Appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.
3. 1-day Racial Equity Workshop & Gender Equity Training.
