Director of Technology

Base Compensation: $54,080+ (Leadership Pay Schedule)
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday; Typical Business Hours. Occasional evening or weekend work. Flexible as a response to program needs and as arranged with the supervisor.

Under the supervision of the VPO, the Director of Technology provides dynamic, responsive, collaborative and forward-thinking vision, leadership and management of technology systems and services to support the mission and goals of the YWCA of Kalamazoo (YWCA).  The Director of Technology manages the day-to-day operations of the YWCA’s information technology including but not limited to, servers, telephones, networking, storage, disaster recovery, switches, routers, firewall, workstations, tablets, wireless AP’s applications and connectivity to al YWCA approved network devices.   This includes the planning, development, implementation, management and maintenance of all applications, infrastructure, security, networks, software updates, and technology training, as well as comprehensive support for staff and performs related work as required.

Brief Description

Under the supervision of the VPO, the Director of Technology provides dynamic, responsive, collaborative and forward-thinking vision, leadership and management of technology systems and services to support the mission and goals of the YWCA of Kalamazoo (YWCA).

Job Responsibilities

IT Governance

  • Assures that the organization’s business processes are compliant with relevant legislation, and that the organization operates according to the principles embedded in relevant standard.
  • Manages the design, implementation, and communication of business continuance and disaster recovery plans and processes that ensure the security and integrity of organization data, databases, information systems, and technology.
  • Conducts risk analysis to identify critical operations and systems that are core to continued business operations in the event of disruption.
  • Assess the impact of any relevant legislative, internal or external regulations on the organization’s use of information and develop compliance strategies.

Business process Improvement

  • Advise on significant enterprise-wide improvements and measurable benefits to the organization by identifying, proposing, initiating and leading significant improvement programs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Align department goals and work with the YWCA vision and strategic plan.

Innovation

  • Manages, monitors and research opportunities, new methods, trends, capacities and products to support organization growth.
  • Clearly articulates and formalizes the potential benefits of structural and incremental technology change.
  • Stays current on technology developments.

Relationship Management

  • Establish long-term strategic relationships with key players.
  • Facilitate open communication and discussion among stakeholders, serving as a single point of contact through the development, maintenance and engagement of data protection strategies and plans.
  • Develops and maintains communications and partnerships with YWCA staff and external organizations and individuals.
  • Negotiates with vendors regarding contracts, pricing and implementation.
  • Negotiates with stakeholders at all levels and ensures that organizational data protection policy and strategies are adhered to.

Information Security

  • Develop and disseminate information security policies, standards and guidelines.
  • Manages the provision of authoritative advice and guidance on the requirements for security controls in collaboration with YWCA staff in other functions e.g., legal.
  • Reviews security measures with network operations and data processing staff.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates internal compliance audits and reviews and provides feedback and education. Educate new site directors, coordinators, leadership team and staff.

Supervision and Training

  • Supervises and evaluates IT department staff and/or IT contractor to assure the agency’s needs are met.
  • Consults with staff on training needs, develop materials, and participates in in-service training to ensure proper data handling and transmission.

Information Management and Support Services

  • Administers all information systems including computer, multi-media (such as webpage, remote work platforms), and other organizational required software.
  • Leads the selection of YWCA technology information systems, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the systems.
  • Analyze the impact of requested services considering factors including, but not limited to, compatibility, conversion, implementation, ongoing costs, and impacts to existing systems and equipment.
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of the YWCA technology plan.
  • Provide technological services to the YWCA staff and advises staff on technology policy.
  • Performs remote/in-person troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions.

Asset Management

  • Manages the IT asset management programs to include procurement, deployment, maintenance, inventory, and disposal of IT hardware and software.

Miscellaneous

  • Attends committee and board meetings as requested.
  • As a YWCA employee, project a positive image of the agency and its programs to the community program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education requirements, certifications, work experience

  1. Bachelor or Associate’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  2. Three years of highly technical, hands-on-experience delivering enterprise technology, infrastructure, and services in Private/Public Cloud and Virtual environment
  3. One-year project management duties
  4. Ability to respond to change as needed.
  5. Capable of making sound decisions and responding calmly in stressful situations. Operates within organizational structure, customs, practices, policies and procedures.
  6. Knowledge of the latest advances in software and technology.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to ask clarifying questions. Proven customer service skills.

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.

  3. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, Mandatory Reporting.
  4. Other appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.
  5. Health and safety/OSHA and Emergency Procedures Orientation
