Director of Therapy

Provide individual and group clinical supervision to therapists providing psychotherapy services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking. Manage therapist team, providing quality assurance and best practice training.  Manage and maintain a small direct service caseload, as needed. Serve as a thought leader on best practices in working with survivors of gender-based crimes.

Brief Description

Provide individual and group clinical supervision to therapists providing psychotherapy services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct administrative and clinical supervision to a team of therapists.
  2. Provides clinical training and onboarding to enhance therapists’ skills, competence, confidence, and professional development.
  3. Provides reflective space and emotional support to therapists to prevent vicarious trauma effects and burn-out or compassion fatigue.
  4. Provides quality assurance to ensure client care is safe, ethical, and competent.
  5. Maintains up-to-date records of individual/group supervision topics (administrative and clinical).
  6. Provides standards of care promoting empowerment, respecting intersectionality, and ensuring professional and organizational standards.
  7. Works with VP of Victim Services to identify therapy department needs and create plans to address needs of client population.
  8. Quality assurance measures through review of all therapists’ documentation of services, contact attempts, case closures, etc.
  9. Collaborates with VP of Victim Services and Victim Services Leadership Team to develop/revise policy/procedure, as it pertains to therapy services.
  10. Creates and sustains relationships with community partners, identifying/sharing resources with Victim Services team.
  11. Conducts interviews/terminations for therapists, as needed.
  12. Collaborates with Intake Assessor to ensure timely assignment of survivors to therapists.
  13. Collaborates with Senior Therapist and Intake Assessor to avoid client waitlists by ensuring intern capacity needs are aligned with community survivor needs, planning intern cohorts in accordance with referral flow and patterns.
  14. Facilitates therapists’ management of individual caseloads.
  15. Provides, as needed, direct counseling services to consumers of YWCA Kalamazoo Victim Services program which includes but may not be limited to: assessment; individual, and group counseling, as needed.
  16. Maintains up-to-date records of consumer contact as prescribed by the agency, including but not limited to: progress notes, quarterly reports, and assessment summaries.
  17. Facilitates coordination of services with other referring agencies.
  18. Participates/leads, or trains, as needed, in team and staff meetings.
  19. Maintains program participant and program records, collects statistics and submits reports as required to the Association, e.g. the YWCA National Board, funding and licensing sources.
  20. Safeguards confidential information gained as a result of the job.
  21. Complies with applicable local, state and federal licensing requirements/certification and/or regulations.
  22. Completes and facilitates ethical risk assessment of individuals re: child/elder abuse and harm to self/other.
  23. As a YWCA employee, projects a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community, the Association and the program.
  24. Works cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff and volunteers.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education requirements, certifications, work experience

  1. Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or counseling-related field is required. Specific training in child sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking is highly desired.
  2. Mental health professional licensed to practice independently in the State of Michigan: Ph.D., LMSW, or LPC.
  3. Clinical Supervision certification or eligibility.
  4. 5+ years of direct clinical experience, preferably with trauma specialization or with survivor population.
  5. Demonstrated working knowledge of application of therapeutic modalities.
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively educate therapists on application of such modalities.
  7. Demonstrated capacity to express self efficiently and professionally in written and oral formats.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work from a team perspective in treatment provision.
  9. Ability to manage stressful situations, i.e., client crisis, multiple and simultaneous duties, critical decision-making, and court testimony.
  10. Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time in consecutive treatment sessions, report writing, and document review.
  11. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  12. Ability to initiate and cooperate, working alone or with a team.
  13. Proven ability to set priorities and fulfill responsibilities.
  14. Ability to make sound decisions and respond capably in crisis situations.
  15. Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  16. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
