Lead Mobile Housing Advocate

Provide empowerment based, client driven mobile advocacy to victims/survivors of domestic violence who are engaged in the YWCA’s Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing programs. Includes supportive counseling, advocacy, assistance, and facilitation of a monthly support group on-site. Provides guidance and leadership to mobile housing advocate(s).

Compensation Range: $16.50+, Support Staff Salary Scale
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours of Work: Monday – Friday; Typical Business Hours. Occasional evening or weekend work.

Brief Description

Provide empowerment based, client driven mobile advocacy to victims/survivors of domestic violence who are engaged in the YWCA’s Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing programs.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide services to domestic violence shelter residents who are preparing to move into the YWCA’s Transitional Supportive Housing program.
  2. Provide services to Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing Residents.
  3. Provide client directed services including safety planning, supportive counseling, mobile advocacy, referral, education, support groups, and follow-up.
  4. Inform clients about choices and options regarding economic, legal, housing, social, health and other basic needs.
  5. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate on-site monthly support groups.
  6. Assist clients in obtaining permanent housing when exiting the program.
  7. Maintain program participant records, collect statistics and submit reports as required.
  8. Serve as an advocate for the residents.
  9. Provide training and guidance to new housing staff/advocates.
  10. Safeguard confidential information gained as a result of the job.
  11. Comply with applicable local, state and federal licensing/certification requirements and/or
  12. Comply with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse.
  13. As a YWCA employee, project a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community, the Association and the program.
  14. Work cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff and volunteers.
  15. A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle expected.
  16. CPR and First Aid certification required.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. YWCA location
  2. Off-site location: This position requires working at various locations within the community and in client homes
  3. Potential outdoor events
  4. Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, some lifting
  5. Frequently required to talk or hear
  6. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
  7. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 10 pounds

Education requirements, certifications, work experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human service or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Certification/licensure as required. Commensurate experience in the area of housing and domestic and/or sexual assault may be considered.
  2. Minimum one-year experience in crisis intervention, crisis counseling and/or case work; domestic violence programs preferred.
  3. Understanding and knowledge of domestic violence dynamics.
  4. Ability to work under pressure and with people of diverse backgrounds.
  5. Able to be flexible and creative in meeting client needs while maintaining professional boundaries.
  6. Able to appropriately interact with and support people who have experienced trauma.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Ability to work independently on multiple projects, or as part of a team.
  9. Satisfactory response to criminal, child abuse, and neglect history background checks.
  10. A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle expected.
  11. CPR and First Aid certification required.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.
  2. Racial Justice Training
  3. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, Mandatory Reporting.
  4. Other appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.
