Provides management and leadership for 0-12 years early learning program, with specific focus on 0-8 years. Implements the YWCA’s mission in the daily operations of the early learning center. Ensures program compliance with YWCA program policies and procedures, licensing requirements and standards of accreditation bodies. Maintains quality program services, staffing and facilities utilizing a strengths-based, collective leadership approach.

Base Compensation: $50,000- $60,000
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Hours of Work: (Downtown) Monday-Friday; Typical Business Hours. Occasional evening or weekend work. Flexible as a response to program needs and as arranged with the supervisor.
(Edison) Customized schedule designed to operate a 24/7 early childhood education center.

Brief Description

Provides management and leadership for 0-12 years early learning program, with specific focus on 0-8 years.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Be available for support of 24-hour programming.
  2. Provide guidance & Maintain compliance with all provider agreements.
  3. Performs child and program assessments at regular intervals. Uses findings to guide teaching and learning and to make program decisions.
  4. Know and can perform all aspects of the program.
  5. Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates program staff (paid, volunteer, student and intern) following YWCA guidelines, policies, procedures and practices. Holds regular and periodic staff meetings and arrange professional development.
  6. Maintains program participants, staff and program records, collects data and submit reports as required for the Association, funding, quality and licensing standards.
  7. Assess current Children’s Center management practices.
  8. Develop a quality improvement plan based on gaps found in assessment.
  9. Provide guidance and accountability to the Children’s Center leadership team in support of implementation of quality improvement plan.
  10. Work cooperatively with all YWCA staff to resolve any programmatic or customer concerns including but not limited to communication, service delivery, quality, curriculum, personnel, and assessment.
  11. Work cooperatively with all YWCA staff, program participants, and volunteers on assigned duties.
  12. Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and safeguards confidential information gained because of the position.
  13. Comply with applicable local, state and federal licensing requirements/certification and or regulations.
  14. Comply with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse, elder abuse, suicide and homicide.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
  16. Ensures all Children’s Center staff complete at least 24 clock hours of training annually.
  17. Keeps child health appraisals and immunizations up to date. Reports to the County Health Department weekly regarding communicable diseases.
  18. Participates in budget planning/development/monitoring.
  19. Acts as spokesperson for the program; and, as a YWCA employee, projects a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community, the Association and the program.
  20. Serving ON-CALL as needed. ON-CALL includes, but is not limited to troubleshooting center issues, ensuring staff and child ratios are maintained, and serving as leadership presence as needed.

Education requirements, certifications, work experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, or related field preferred. Must meet qualifications as a Program Director for State of Michigan Child Care Licensing.
  2. Minimum five years’ experience working within a leadership or management role.
  3. Satisfactory response to child care licensing fingerprinting background checks, criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender history checks.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining and promoting a professional and respectful workplace.
  6. Demonstrated highly effective oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and to advocate and promote concepts of equality and inclusion throughout the organization.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.
  2. Racial Justice Training.
  3. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, Mandatory Reporting.
  4. Other appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.
  5. Health and safety/OSHA and Emergency Procedures Orientation.
